My Most Formal Speech (plus My Thoughts on Some Things)

Greetings, fellow readers. I am the administrator of this web log, Gilbert Martinez. I am here to present to you my most formal style of speech.

Now, I shall discuss with you my thoughts on certain issues that are occurring at this very moment.

I feel that all religions of the world should respect one another. The current war on Terrorism is because people who believe in the Islamic religion despise people who believe in other religions (if I am correct).

I feel that there is always a drawback to every good thing.

Just Some Math I Know...

A 30% discount for a latte at Starbucks gives a total price of $14.00. What was the original price? How much was discounted?

Original Price:
.7x = 14
x = 20
The original price was $20.00.

Amount Discounted:
20 - 14 = y
y = 6
The amount discounted was $6.00.

The length of a rectangle is 7 less than 3 times the width. Its perimeter is 42. Find both values.

Width (y):
8y - 14 = 42
8y = 56
y = 7

Length (x):
x = 3(7) - 7
x = 21 - 7
x = 14

Juan and Alex go to a taco stand. Juan buys three tacos and two quesadillas. He pays $42. Alex buys two tacos and one quesadilla. He pays $30. How much is one taco? How much is one quesadilla?

3x + 2y = 42
- 4x + 2y = 30
---------------
-x = -12
x = 12

2(12) + y = 30
24 + y = 30
y = 6

One taco costs $12.00. One quesadilla costs $6.00.

My Valentine's Day Love Poem

Che cos'è l'amore?
È quando la freccia di Cupido va lascia il segno su due che erano destinati a stare insieme.
E'la ragione per cui molti diventano coppie sposate.
Quindi devo chiedere...
Che cos'è l'amore?

Translation:
What is love?
It is when Cupid's arrow leaves its mark on two who were destined to be together.
It's the reason why many become married couples.
So I must ask...
What is love?

I wrote this love poem (both in Italian and English) for a girl who I believe is very special. Her name? Amanda Skipworth. I asked her to be my valentine, but she told me that she said "Yes" to someone else who asked the same thing. I was not heartbroken over this, but I wasn't left undamaged either. But, hey, love does that to people. ^w^
